The Finite-Element Matrix Interpretive System provides interactive,
tutorial computation for users interested in finite element technology.
Matrix algebra is used extensively in symbolic form.
The FEMIS program was developed to provide a test environment
for new FEM algorithms. It has been used extensively over a three
year period of time. In FEMIS, our basic objective was to learn
how to make programs "user- friendly." Rather than overwhelm the
console with the enormous output FEM programs typically generate,
FEMIS is designed to allow the user to selectively review input
and output files and make minor modifications. FEMIS provides
a vehicle to test individual ideas and innovations.
