Included is an excellet tutorial on how to begin using this package. The file SnapPea.readme explains the differences in the various versions of SnapPea presented here. Taken from an internal document, some of the operations which may be performed are: Creating punctured torus bundles with specified monodromy. Do Dehn fillings on the cusps of any cusped hyperbolic 3-manifold and compute compute numerical andgraphical invariants of the resulting manifolds. Compute fundamental groups of manifolds. Determine whether two cusped hyperbolic 3-manifolds are isometric. Draw link projections with the mouse. Draw horoballs and Ford domains. Rehydrate the entire Link Library. Compute symmetry groups. Contained in the main package (SnapPea.sea.hqx) is a folder entitled "Fun & Games" which also appears as a stand-alone file in the Archives. It consists of six programs of perhaps wider interest than the "parent program" Snap Pea. They are: Overhead: A program to write overhead transparencies, Flight Simulator: Fly around within a variety of manifolds including projective 3 space, quaternionic manifold, Poincare dodecahedral manifold, 3-torus, Klein bottle cross a circle, and several others. HyperCube: View, rotate, and change perspective on a hypercube. Hyperbolic MacDraw: A simple version of MacDraw implemented in any of three models of hyperbolic geometry -- Poincare model, Klein model, and upper-half-plane model. Drawing lines, triangles, polygonal regions are all supported. There are also tools to translate and to rotate objects. Torus Chess: Play chess on a board with the topology of a torus or a Klein bottle. (N.B. be sure to read the "help" information before your first move so that you can get the mouse back to the menu bar when desired.) Maze: A maze program written by the programmer for his son. -------------------------------------------------------------- Location in Mathematics Archives: Anonymous FTP: /mac/geometry /mac/miscellaneous /mac/topology Gopher: (First select "Software" then "Macintosh software arranged by subjects") Geometry / Snap Pea Miscellaneous / Snap Pea Topology / Snap Pea --------------------------------------------------------------
