CoCoA1.5.sea.hqx CoCoA (Computations in Commutative Algebra) version 1.5 Allessandro Giovini & Gianfranco Niesi cocoa@igecuniv.bitnet "CoCoA is a small special-purpose system for doing computations in commutative algebra which runs on any computer of the Macintosh family provided with at least 1 MB of RAM..." Its objects are polynomials, lists of polynomials, ideals, modules, matrices of polynomials, and rational functions. The basic operations available are: sums, products, powers, derivatives, gcd, lcm of polynomials; sums, products, powers, derivatives, of rational functions; sums, products, powers of ideals; sums of modules; sums, products, powers, determinants of matrices as well as appropriate operations between heterogeneous objects. There are also a number of more advanced operations included such as Grobner basis of ideals and modules; syzygies of ideals and modules; standard bases and tangent cones of ideals; intersection and division of ideals and modules; as well as many others. Polynomials are entered and displayed with true exponents and subscripts, however typing them (Opt superscript for superscripts; Shift-Opt subscript for subscripts) can slow down entering data. On line help is included as well as a 25-page users guide from an earlier version. The package is a powerful and useful tool for computation in commutative algebra. Runs under both system 6 and system 7, including 7.1 in 32-bit mode. -------------------------------------------------------------- Location in Mathematics Archives: Anonymous FTP: /mac/calculus /mac/modernAlgebra Gopher: (First select "Software" then "Macintosh software arranged by subjects") Calculus / Computational Commutative Algebra Modern Algegra / Computational Commutative Algebra --------------------------------------------------------------
