Normally you will need only one of the two application files. We strongly recommend you also download the help file AND the examples file: IgorProFPUDemo.sit.hqx Application for Macs with Floating Point Units. IgorProNoFPUDemo.sit.hqx Application for Macs without Floating Point Units. IgorProPPCDemo.sit.hqx Application for Power Macs (Igor Pro is a ÒnativeÓ application), and system extensions for the Power Mac. IgorProHelpDemo.sit.hqx Help and other support files. You need this. IgorProExamplesDemo.sit.hqx Demo files that show you why Igor Pro is cool. You need this, too. After downloading, uncompress the files with something like Stuffit 3.0, or StuffIt Expander. You will then have several folders named ÒIgor Pro FolderÓ, ÒIgor Pro Folder 1Ó, etc. Copy the contents of the numbered ÒIgor Pro FolderÓs into ÒIgor Pro FolderÓ, and trash the now-empty numbered ÒIgor Pro FolderÓs. INSTALLING IGOR PRO FROM FLOPPY DISKS Turn off virus protection. Double-click the ÒIgor Pro Demo InstallerÓ file on ÒDisk 1Ó. Further installation instructions appear in the installer window. Note that the installer will only ask for those disks that are actually needed for the given set of files to be installed. Even if you perform a complete installation, only one of the two types of Igor Pro will be installed, so one disk may be skipped. AFTER INSTALLING In the Finder, double-click the ÒIgor Pro FolderÓ icon. This will ensure that the Finder recognizes that Igor Pro was installed. Close and drag the ÒIgor Pro FolderÓ to the desired place on your disk. If installing onto a Power Mac, copy the contents of the ÒPower Mac Sys. ExtensionsÓ folder into your system Extensions folder. IMPORTANT KNOWN CONFLICTS A number of problems have been reported in the Apple Menu Options (A.M.O.) extension that comes with System 7.5. These problems include crashes and menus disappearing from the menu bar. They have been reported for Igor Pro as well as other programs. However, many people run A.M.O. with no trouble. If you experience erratic behavior try running with A.M.O off. Now Utilities' "WYSIWYG Menus" prior to version 5.0 is known to make Igor Pro crash. To prevent this, use the WYSIWYG Menus control panel to stop WYSIWYG Menus from running with Igor Pro. Version 5.0 of "WYSIWYG Menus" works fine with Igor Pro. See the Igor Pro "Known Problems" help file in the "More Help Files" folder for information on other, less dire conflicts and problems. GETTING STARTED WITH IGOR PRO We strongly recommend that you take the ÒGuided Tour of IgorÓ. It will get you off on the right foot and will save you a lot of time in the long run. Besides, itÕs fun! Start the tour by selecting ÔHelp BrowserÕ from the ÔWindowsÕ menu, and double-clicking Ò4. Guided Tour of Igor ProÓ in the ÔHelp TopicsÕ list. Later, to get a feel for what Igor Pro can do, double-click some of the files in the ÒExamplesÓ folder. Igor Pro has extensive and informative balloon help for System 7 users. We know that most people think balloon help is useless. This is not the case in Igor Pro for two reasons: 1) We spent a lot of time writing meaningful balloon help. 2) Igor Pro provides a quick way to turn balloon help on. Press and hold the command, option and shift keys. Also check out the ÒHelp BrowserÓ. Choose ÒHelp BrowserÓ in the ÔWindowsÕ menu. FOR WORLD-WIDE WEB BROWSERS! When you drop onto the Igor Pro 2.03 application a text file that conforms to IgorÕs notion of a MIME-TSV file (an Internet standard that describes tab-separated values), Igor will load the file and automatically put it into a table and a graph. FOR IGOR 1.2 USERS The help file ÒWhatÕs New Since Igor 1.2Ó in the ÒMore Help FilesÓ folder explains all of the changes and additions in Igor Pro. MEMORY ALLOCATION As installed, Igor Pro is configured to request 3 megabytes of memory. If you have large Igor experiments you may want to increase this, using the ÔGet InfoÕ Finder command. Igor Pro will require about 1.2 megabytes more than Igor 1.2 to run the same experiment. FINDER CONFUSION If you have Igor 1.2 and Igor Pro on your hard disk, you will not know which version of Igor the Finder will launch when you double-click an Igor experiment. The easiest solution for this is to remove Igor 1.2. Advanced users can use a program like ResEdit to change the Igor 1.2 creator from IGR0 to IGRx. FINDER ICONS Igor Pro has new icons. For the Finder to use the new icons, you may need to force the Finder to Òrebuild the desktop fileÓ. If the new icons donÕt appear in the Finder, rebuild the desktop by pressing the command and options keys while restarting your Mac.
