Formulae 1 Demo for the Macintosh Carlos Bazzarella Poliplus Software (519) 747-0668 email : cbazza@hookup.net FORMULAE 1 : POWERFUL AND EASY TO USE COMPUTER ALGEBRA SYSTEM FOR THE TEACHING OF MATHEMATICS Waterloo, Canada - July 19, 1995 - Poliplus Software is announcing the release of 'Formulae 1' for Macintosh. 'Formulae 1' (F1) is a powerful and easy to use Computer Algebra System (CAS) designed specially for the teaching and exploration of mathematics. Unlike other CASs, F1 gives the user the ability to see the STEPS taken to solve a particular problem. Most CASs on the other hand, only present a final answer to the user. F1 can be used to graphically build and display mathematical equations as well as solve them with easy. F1's graphical display of equations and direct math manipulation features, allow users to explore mathematics more easily and freely. User focus is shifted to the challenges of problem solving, rather than on the tedious algebra manipulation. F1 is powerful yet very simple to use. Features of Formulae 1: - Fast automatic simplification of expressions containing symbols and functions. - Stepwise simplification allowing intermediate steps. - Requires minimum hardware resources (CPU and memory) and is ROM ready. - Graphically displays expressions and draws special functions including : derivatives, integrals, square roots, the Greek alphabet. - Functions support : sqrt, sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, cosh, sinh, tanh, exp, logb, log, ln, abs, degree and user defined functions. - Supports arithmetic operators: +,-, /, *, ^. Relations: =, <>, <, >, <=, >=, =>, ==, :=. Symbolic constants: inf, pi and e. - Calculus support : derivatives (by limit definition or rules), integrals, integration by parts, integration by variable substitution, limits with minus and plus signs, L'Hopitals' rule. - Algebra support. Full matrix arithmetic and the following functions : adj, det, minv, transpose. - Finite support: sum, prod, factorial, binomial expansion, perm and comb. - Polynomial support : factoring, complete the squares, long hand division, partial fractions, quadratic equation, greatest common divisors. - Powerful Variable/Function isolate. - Dynamic (user) extendible Mathematics Knowledge. This feature allows the user to create new functions and/or extend built-in functions. A demo of F1 has been submitted to the info-mac archives at sumex-aim.stanford.edu. This demo is fully functional with a time restriction of 15 minutes per run. F1 runs on a Macintosh Plus or higher and is available directly for a limited time offer of $29 USD from Poliplus Software. Site Licensing will also be available.
