Pepe, Mike Seattle Central Community College Department of Mathematics 1701 Broadway Seattle, WA 98122 mpepe@u.washington.edu Multivariable Caclulus Current: An integrated set of Mathkit microworlds for exploration and play in Multivariable Calculus. This work is about 75% complete. Covers most concepts relating to curves and surfaces as appear in a third quarter Calculus course. These materials have been field tested in a course in Seattle Central's IMTP lab. Future: a) A set of Mathkit modules to accompany an interactive text in Linear Algebra. The text itself will probably be written using Maple. This work is part of a proposed project with Gene Herman, Bob Moore and Jim King. I have done some preliminary work in this area. b) A collection of short interactive texts using a dynamic approach to geometry. These will be self contained explorations on a range of geometry topics at the Precalculus and Calculus level. I hope to make use of the new facilities available in Mathkit to program objects. I hope to develop these texts in the spirit of the goals set forth in Seymour Papert's "Mindstorms". I have developed several prototypes in this area but none as yet which take advantage of the new object oriented programming. Mike .
