Nealy, Gale 10630 Westbrae Houston, Texas 77031 UKNE25A@prodigy.com Number Theory for Middle School Students The concepts of number theory are important in the study of Algebra and other advanced Mathematics courses. This interactive text project is designed for the middle school student. It encourages students to search for patterns and make generalizations about Mathematics and also gives students an opportunity to discuss strategies. Students will investigate divisibility rules and exponents and apply them to finding the prime factorization of a number. Students will learn to find the greatest common factor and the least common multiple and will explore Pascal's triangle in order to discover patterns. This interactive text strongly emphasizes cooperative learning/ grouping. This gives students a chance to 'talk' Mathematically with their peers without feeling threatened or embarrassed of being wrong. .
