Hale, Margie Stetson University Department of Mathematics DeLand, FL 32720 mhale@macs.stetson.edu Differential Equations and Modeling The text serves two major purposes. The first is to provide an environment in which students can learn the material in an elementary differential equations course. The second is to provide a variety of tools which allow the students to analyze differential equations. Some lessons help the student experience the material in one or more alternate ways. Visualization is emphasized, as is experimentation and discovery learning. Other lessons acquaint the student with various models and allow the student to develop a "feel" for which models best describe which physical systems. Finally, to construct and evaluate models successfully, the student needs an appropriate set of mathematical tools. In the case of differential equations this includes a numerical solver, graphing tools, etc. These tools will also be included in the text. .
