The curriculum component of the Kentucky ATE project (NKATE -- NSF DUE-9454585) has developed an reform Intermediate Algebra textbook, An Introduction to Functions Through Applications, recently published by Addison Wesley Longman. The course, which is in the spirit of the AMATYC Crossroads Standards, takes a functions approach and uses many collaborative learning activities. It makes constructive and appropriate use of technology (TI-82), and uses real life, real time activities to motivate topics.
The NKATE project also sponsored two-day Maple workshops for Kentucky community college mathematics faculty in May, 1995 and May, 1996. These workshops were organized and taught by Ms. Crowley and Steve Ott, PI and co-PI on the ILI project, A Computer Algebra System for Calculus, NSF DUE - 9452472.
This poster will feature both the NKATE algebra curriculum project and the Maple handbook and activities developed for the ILI calculus project.
