RICHARD PFIEFER, San Jose State University, San Jose, CA 95192 Team Teaching an Integrated Mathematics and Science Course In Spring 1994, professors from geology, biology and I were asked to develop a new course integrating the sciences and mathematics to be team taught in Fall, 1994. The National Science Foundation, under grant DUE-9354031, funded two-thirds of the costs with the remainder provided by the school. The anticipated student audience was upper division mathematics and science majors who planned on becoming high school teachers. After selecting the theme "Change Over Time" from the California Science Framework, we developed and taught a seminar style course subtitled "The Earth, Life and the California Environment." We used a mix of activities, guest speakers, videos, and lectures combining our individual interests. The students learned in groups for most of the activities and they formed interest-balanced teams for their final projects, which were presented to the class. The development, syllabus, projects and outcomes of the course will be presented and outlines with reading lists will be provided.
