  Mathematics Across the Curriculum at the University of Nevada

     A program is currently underway at The University of Nevada, Reno, that 
seeks to improve overall mathematics education by enhancing the mathematical 
content of courses in the general education curriculum. It is called 
Mathematics Across the Curriculum and is supported by NSF grants DUE-9451171 
and DUE-9354652.
     The program aims to show students that mathematics indeed arises in 
other courses and in life. Central to our program is a Mathematics Center 
whose primary function is to work with faculty in other disciplines to 
integrate mathematics into courses in the core curriculum where it does not 
exist and to enhance it where it does. The Center also offers support to the
students in these courses with computers and tutoring.
