Graphing calculators that provide statistical functions offer an alternative to computers in the study
of statistics. Using data from a pilot study conducted at his community college, the presenter will
compare the response of students using TI-83 graphing calculators with the response of students using
computer software packages. Demonstrations of the use of the graphing calculators in the statistics
curriculum will be presented. These include the use of the graphing calculator to explore probability
distributions, to summarize data, and to perform statistical inference.
The workshop leader is Bob Pesut from
Pellissippi State Technical Community College,
Length of workshop is two hours.
