Pellissippi State Technical Community College and Walters State Community College have incorporated the TI-92 technology into their standard three semester calculus series. Matching funds from N.S.F. (grant originated at PSTCC) enabled the colleges to purchase loaner sets of TI-92's to check out to students in these classes.

The presentation will focus on how this technology has been incorporated, concentrating on the reform approaches that these calculators support. The presenters will demonstrate how the calculator's symbolic manipulator and graphing capabilities are utilized in the calculus series.

In fall 1997, Walters State Community College adopted a calculus reform text, Calculus from Graphical, Numerical, and Symbolic Points of View by A. Ostebee and P. Zorn. Students use the TI-92 throughout the course. The presentors will also discuss WSCC's use of "gateway" exams which assess student ability to differentiate and integrate without the calculator.

Pellisippi State has incorporated the TI-92 technology in a slightly different way. The calculators are primarily used for student labs to aid in the understanding of calculus. Pellissippi State uses a text by Stewart.
