ABSTRACT

Current efforts to reform mathematics and science education advocate the teaching of content in context and the use of computer-based modeling and data analysis technologies. The Geometry in Space Project focuses on geometric aspects of remote sensing using data analysis and modeling tools and scientific data sets available to teachers and students at low or no cost. In particular, the Geometry in Space Project seeks to awaken an interest in middle school and high school mathematics and science teachers and students in the mathematics and science of remote sensing, one of NASA's most successful activities. In so doing, we hope to promote and instill in this community a heightened sense of the value and timeliness of geometry in today's scientific world.
